AIDS Walk NYC 2010
Tomorrow could be the 2010 Aids Walk New York, wherever New Yorkers will mark 25 years of raising money for care, prevention, services and assistance of folks with AIDS.
Helping to fund the Gay Men’s Well being Crisis (GMHC) a single goal of the 25th anniversary is always to re-ignite HIV/AIDS awareness and to heighten the understanding that 1 individual can make a difference.
Last year’s AIDS Walk New York raised $5.6 million for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and advocacy programs.
GMHC is a nonprofit that “fights to end the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected.” By means of the AIDS Walk New York and its long list of celebrity supporters which includes Whoopi Goldberg, Hilary Duff, Alec Baldwin, Nathan Lane, Jon Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Patti LaBelle, and Harvey Fierstein, GMHC “proudly strides its way into a quarter century of giving back, lifting up and taking in people who require it.”
The 10k (6.2 mile) walk starts at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 16, in Central Park at 59th and 5th Avenue. Register or donate right here. Registration begins at 8:30, followed by an opening ceremony featuring Governor David Patterson, comedian Leslie Jordan from the sitcom Will and Grace, plus a quantity of other dignitaries.
