At least 11 workers missing after oil rig explosion
According to reports, a massive oil rig explosion off the coast of Louisiana left 7 workers critically injured and a minimum of 11 others missing.
The explosion occurred about 50 miles southeast of Venice close to 10 p.m. on a rig called Deepwater Horizon. The fire continues to burn.
Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer Mike O’Berry mentioned 126 workers were aboard when the explosion happened.
He said the 7 workers have been airlifted with a Naval air station close to New Orleans, then used to hospitals. Two of the seven have been taken to some burn unit in Mobile, Alabama.
The Coast Guard has choppers and boats around the scene looking for that missing crew members.
