The skipper at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., was formally fired Wednesday after a brief investigation into “inappropriate conduct,” Navy officials said.

Capt. William Reavey Jr. was “temporarily relieved of command” Friday after Navy officials launched an inquiry into the alleged misconduct, Navy officials said.

That relief became permanent Wednesday “based on information obtained during the inquiry,” according to a news release from Navy Region Southeast.

Navy spokesman Bill Dougherty said he could not disclose further information at this time.

Reavey, 51, became the sixth commanding officer to be fired this year.

Reavey became skipper at NAS Pensacola in May 2008, Navy records show.

Rear Adm. Tim Alexander, commander of Navy Region Southeast, appointed the base’s executive officer, Cmdr. Greg Thomas, to serve as the base CO until the investigation of Reavey is complete, Navy officials said in a prepared statement.

Reavey is a naval flight officer who flew EA-6B Prowlers. In 2003, Reavey was promoted to be the commanding officer for the Electronic Attack Squadron 141’s “Shadowhawks” at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash., Navy records show.

Originally from Manchester, Conn., he was commissioned in 1984 and promoted most recently in 2005, Navy records show.

Other skippers fired this year include:

Capt. John Titus Jr. was fired Jan. 8 as CO of the Naval Supply Corps School in Georgia. His removal followed a judge advocate general’s investigation; a spokesman declined to disclose the nature of the investigation.

Capt. Holly Graf was fired Jan. 13 as CO of the Yokosuka, Japan-based cruiser Cowpens after an inspector general’s investigation found problems with her “temperament and demeanor,” a spokesman said.

Capt. Glen Little was fired as CO of Naval Weapons Station Charleston, S.C., after he was arrested Jan. 26 on a charge of solicitation of prostitution.

Cmdr. Scott Merritt was relieved as head of Naval Support Activity North Potomac on Feb. 12 following nonjudicial punishment. Sources told Navy Times the NJP involved fraternization with junior Navy personnel.

Cmdr. Timothy Weber, the commanding officer of the Norfolk, Va.-based destroyer Truxtun, was relieved for having an inappropriate relationship with a female officer in his command, according to a Navy statement
