Artificial-pancreasResearchers are coming closer to creating an “artificial pancreas,” a long-sought technique of insulin pumps and glucose sensors that supply insulin to diabetics, mimicking the function of the actual pancreas.

The devices happen to be in improvement for over 3 decades, but lawmakers and diabetes advocates are ramping up the pressure and U.S. regulators this full week outlined a regulatory path to get a preliminary edition of the device.

And whilst a seamless device that tracks a diabetic’s blood sugar and automatically administers the right dose of insulin is still several years far from commercial use, outcomes of many studies currently being offered this week with the American Diabetes Association meeting in San Diego show real promise.
