Butler was whistled for a charge late within the second half and immediately grabbed his knee in excruciating pain. West Virginia coach Bob Huggins at some point met Butler on the floor, dropping to his knees and cradling Butler’s head although delivering an emotional message.

It was, indeed, adding damage to insult. The Mountaineers had long since lost control of the game, as Duke caught fire from downtown and got much more than 60 points combined through the trio of Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler and Jon Scheyer.
It was also a bitter end with a sweet season for West Virginia and Butler, in specific. He willed West Virginia to some handful of victories this season, most notably through the Big East Tournament, when he lifted and carried his teammates with a surprise title.
One can only hope he recovers rapidly from the injury and can show scouts he’s still capable of playing at the following level, as nothing can diminish the momentum he built more than the last month like a devastating knee injury.
Butler is a solid player, and, by all accounts, an even much better person – Huggins has stated so several times himself – and one can only hope he recovers in time to have a prosperous career.
