Dead Birds Falling from The Sky
Environmental service workers finished picking up the carcasses on Sunday of about 2,000 red-winged blackbirds that fell dead through the sky in a central Arkansas city.
The birds had fallen Friday night time about a 1-mile location of Beebe, and an aerial survey indicated that no other dead birds were found outside of that region. The staff from U.S. Environmental Services started out the cleanup Saturday.
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission ornithologist Karen Rowe said Saturday the birds showed bodily trauma, and speculated that “the flock could happen to be hit by lightning or high-altitude hail.”
