Former Nationwide CEO Dies

Dean W. Jeffers, a previous chief executive officer (CEO) of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, died Thursday, the company announced.
Jeffers, 94, was basic chairman and CEO of Nationwide, Columbus, Ohio, from 1972 to 1981.
In the course of his tenure, Jeffers was credited with assisting to revitalize downtown Columbus by building the company’s headquarters there, says Nationwide, father of Nationwide Financial Services Inc.
Jeffers held a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University.
A well-known company leader admired within the insurance business and the neighborhood, Nationwide said Mr. Jeffers left an indelible mark around the metropolis of Columbus by means of his efforts to revitalize downtown, including the construction of Nationwide’s world headquarters.
