Global Work Party to Fight agains Global Warming on Oct 10
“Dear World,” begins an open letter from environmentalist Bill McKibben that is posted on climate crisis website 350.org. In it, he proposes a response to what he calls “a tough year” marked by unprecedented charges of glacial retreat in the Arctic, devastating erosion in Latin America, record-breaking temperatures globally — and an virtually full failure to complete anything at all about it.
His suggestion? Throw a party.
“Circle 10/10/10 on your calendar. That’s the date. The place is wherever you live. And the point is to do something that will help deal with global warming in your city or community,” so notes climate activist and writer Bill McKibben.
McKibben founded 350.org to draw consideration to climate activism across the world. The title comes from 350 components per million, which is the “safe” level of carbon emissions in the environment in accordance with NASA scientist James Hansen.
The “Global Work Party” is developed to couple grassroots environmental activism with political engagement in communities across the world on Oct. 10, 2010 — 10/10/10.
