Google To Buy ITA Software
Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) will try to dominate the online e-commerce travel marketplace the way it has come to dominate cellphone operating systems with its Android item. In other words, it’s impossible to tell regardless of whether its buy-out for ITA Software will ever bear fruit financially.
The price is $700 million. ITA is an important provider of software specializing in organizing airline data, including flight times, availability and prices.Google said the acquisition of ITA Software will generate a new, less difficult way for users to discover far better flight details on the internet, which must encourage much more users to make their flight purchases on the internet.
The ITA products are critical to most airline and travel e-commerce web sites, which means that numerous businesses like Priceline and Orbitz will probably be unhappy.
The deal is nearly certain to be reviewed by The Justice Department. Google clearly plans to aggressively push itself into some thing that has been other people’s business.
