Grigory Perelman REJECTS $1 Million Prize for Poincare Conjecture
43-year-old mathematician Grigory Perelman made a decision to reject a million dollar prize given to him by a U.S. institute. This was referred to as the “Millennium Prize” by the Clay Mathematics Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Grigory Perelman, who lives with his mother in St. Petesburg was awarded the prize for proving of a theorem identified since the Poincare conjecture.
He did it because he felt the decision was unjust, especially for American mathematician Richard Hamilton who contributed equally to proving the theorem.
