Harmon Killebrew ends fight with Esophageal Cancer
Harmon Killebrew announced Friday that he no longer options to fight his esophageal cancer and has settled in for the final days of his life, saddening pals and supporters of the 74-year-old Hall of Fame slugger.
Within a statement launched jointly through the Minnesota Twins and the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Killebrew stated “it is with profound sadness” that he will no longer get therapy for your “awful disorder.”
Killebrew, who’s 11th on baseball’s all-time home run listing with 573, thanked his well-wishers for their help. Killebrew lives in the Phoenix area and was getting treatment at a branch of the Mayo Clinic in the area right after his diagnosis in December.
What is Esophageal Cancer ?
According to MayoClinic, Esophageal cancer is cancer that occurs in the esophagus — a long, hollow tube that runs from your throat to your stomach. Your esophagus carries food you swallow to your stomach to be digested.
Esophageal Cancer Symptoms include:
- Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
- Weight loss without trying
- Chest pain, pressure or burning
- Fatigue
- Frequent choking while eating
- Indigestion or heartburn
- Coughing or hoarseness
