Indy 500 : Danica Patrick Finishes 10th
For that second time in her IndyCar career, Danica Patrick took a late lead on the Indy 500 and essential fuel worries to resolve by themselves to get a chance at taking the checkered flag. And just like in 2005, Patrick’s 2011 Indy 500 bid actually ran from fuel a bit too quickly, leaving her which has a 10th-place finish.
Patrick’s team gambled on a fuel-conservation strategy by pitting on Lap 159 and hoping for 2 issues: adequate green flag racing for Patrick’s vehicle to regain the form that had her working powerful late, plus a caution to present Patrick an opportunity to fill up before the finish. She obtained the previous, and led ten laps soon after taking the lead with 20 laps to go.
That last stop left her racing to produce the best ten – which she did, at 10th, giving her 6 top-10 finishes on the Indy 500 in 7 starts.
