Lettuce Recall 2010 in 23 States because of E. Coli
An E.Coli outbreak has led Freshway Foods of Sidney, Ohio to recall romaine lettuce sold in 23 states and the District of Columbia, such as Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The lettuce was marketed below the brands “Freshway” and “Imperial Sysco,” and was distributed to wholesale outlets, food support outlets, shop salad bars and delicatessens. The lettuce under recall has “Use by date” of Might 12 or earlier, and also applies to “grab and go” style salads offered by Kroger, Giant Eagle, Ingles Markets and Marsh grocery shops.
The manufacturer, Freshway Meals, was alerted for the presence of E. Coli in its lettuce from the FDA. Based on a company statement, the FDA has not found a source of contamination at the plant in Sidney, Ohio. The focus has turned to investigating exactly where the lettuce was grown in Arizona, and one more undisclosed processing plant.
There have been approximately 19 people sickened through the recalled lettuce, 12 of those individuals have required hospitalization, three have complications from the E. Coli which have been regarded being life-threatening.
