Metro North Service back to normal after Bridge Fire
Metro-North service is back to normal this evening, hrs after a fire burning beneath the 138th street Lift Bridge through the Harlem RIV quickly suspended the trains.
The fire commenced before noon in pilings underneath the 138th street Lift Bridge by the Harlem River, quickly stopping all service into and out with the city on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines.
Huge clouds of smoke billowed into the air and it took over an hour until fire boats have been eventually able to knock down the flames.
New York City Fire Department officials say their largest concern was the potential injury to the bridge over.
The first fire vans arrived inside of minutes, however it took greater than a half an hour before crews were able to commence fighting the blaze with fireboats.
