Missy Elliot Suffering From Graves’ Disease
Filed under: Entertainment, Health Care and News
Missy Elliott has revealed that she’s been suffering with Graves disease — an autoimmune disease that influences the thyroid – as of 2008.
In 2008 the Work It hit-maker was diagnosed with Graves’ disease – a problem which impacts the thyroid – and she admits the signs and symptoms arrived on so quickly; she almost lost her capacity to complete everyday points like drive and write.
And right after suffering a slew of other negative effects, which includes hair loss and mood swings, Elliot turned to radiation – which in the end enhanced her condition.
What is Graves Disease?
According to MayoClinic, Graves’ disease is the most common form of hyperthyroidism, occurring when your immune system mistakenly attacks your thyroid gland and causes it to overproduce the hormone thyroxine. This higher thyroxine level can greatly increase your body’s metabolic rate, which may affect you in numerous ways, from your moods to your physical appearance.
Graves’ disease symptoms may include:
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Difficulty sleeping
- Fatigue
- A rapid or irregular heartbeat
- A fine tremor of your hands or fingers
- An increase in perspiration
- Sensitivity to heat
- Weight loss, despite normal food intake
- Brittle hair
- Enlargement of your thyroid gland (goiter)
- Change in menstrual cycles
- Frequent bowel movements
