Today is National Punctuation Day, so celebrate each time you employ a punctuation mark!

Frequently underappreciated, misused and misunderstood, punctuation marks are an integral a part of any language. They add emotion and may change the whole meaning of a sentence. When utilized incorrectly, sentences appear just plain ugly to anybody with the eye to spot errors. Unfortunately, many individuals don’t have that eye.

Annoyed by the significant amount of errors he noticed in the newspaper, newsletter publisher and former reporter Jeff Rubin decided to begin the holiday in honor of often ignored punctuation marks.

So Rubin decided to commence National Punctuation Day, which was born in 2004 when he secured a listing in the “Chase’s Calendar of Events” reference book. 2010 marks the holiday’s seventh yr.

The holiday isn’t just for punctuation perfectionists. Rubin advised CNN he wants to assist educators college students that punctuation nevertheless matters in an age of text messages and tweets.
