Palmdale Fire
The Palmdale ‘Crown Fire‘ reached LA County Thursday evening, July 30th. It burned 7 square miles and forced about 2,000 folks from their houses Thursday night. The blaze has consumed 8,000 acres and is about 5% contained. It started around 3 p.m. Thursday for the north side of Sierra Highway at Anthony Road. Some evacuees have returned, but the fire continues to spread.
KTLA says, “Fire officials on Friday morning said the flames were burning dangerously close to power lines that supply electricity to Southern California. Air tankers were dropping water and fire retardant around that area in an effort to stop the flames from burning the power infrastructure.”
The Huffington Post reports, “Officials say no homes are in imminent danger early Friday but they expect another day of high heat and gusty afternoon winds that could hamper containment efforts near the dense suburbs of Palmdale. The fire is 12 1/2 square miles and 5 percent contained.”
