PATRIOT Act Extension Vote Result
By a cloture vote of 79 to 18, the Senate today, as anticipated, moved a four-year extension of key provisions of the PATRIOT Act nearer to a closing vote.
The vote results come as no surprise, but they do keep on a notable episode on the Senate floor. The sparring amongst Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Senate Vast majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has sparked curiosity in a difficulty that in any other case may have prompted tiny new discussion.
The disagreement between the two senators has long been as considerably procedural as positional. Reid promised a total week of discussion and an open amendment process, but later balked when time ran quick. When Paul complained yesterday about his inability to supply amendments, Reid fundamentally accused him of single-handedly jeopardizing the nation’s security.
