The Pi Day 2010 marks the observance of the mathematical constant 3.14, is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. While the symbol to the Pi was first used by mathematician William Jones in 1706, it was exposed to public light after it was utilized by Swiss mathematician Leonard Euler in 1737.

The Pi Day 2010 is marked on March 14, though a quick search on the internet is ready to show that the day will even mark the Pi minute, which would fall at 1:59 PM and the Pi second, which will be on 1:59;26 PM, based on the numerical Pi truncated to seven decimal places (3.1415926).

Lots of people, mathematicians or not, plan to celebrate on the Pi Day 2010. While places such as Maryland Science Center, the Discovery Science Center and San Fransisco’s Exploratorium might be holding their yearly parties to mark the occasion, several restaurants are offering free pies to the Pi Day 2010.

Today’s Google doodle also marks the Pi Day 2010.

You can be a part of the Pi Day 2010 celebrations by calculating your Pi age and Pi birthday, calaculating as many decimal places as possible of the number, finding out more info about Pi Day and the other ways in which its important, or by simply fetching a pie from the corner store!
