Reggie Garrett Dead After Collapsing During Game
A hospital spokeswoman in eastern Texas says a high school quarterback has died following collapsing on the sideline throughout a game.
Memorial Hermann Baptist-Orange Hospital spokeswoman Mary Poole advised The Associated Press that West Orange-Stark senior Reggie Garrett died on the Beaumont hospital about 9:30 p.m. Friday. She said no reason for death has been determined, and an autopsy was ordered.
The Beaumont Enterprise reviews that Garrett collapsed on the sideline throughout the 2nd quarter shortly right after throwing his 2nd touchdown from the game against Jasper. Head coach Dan Hooks says Garrett appeared to suffer a seizure.
Fans clapped and shouted encouragement as medics took Garrett off the field, as well as the game resumed soon after medics put him in an ambulance.
