Songwriter Joseph Brooks Dead at 73
Joseph Brooks, the Oscar-winning songwriter awaiting trial on sex crime charges, was located dead Sunday of an obvious suicide in his New york City apartment, police say. The ‘You Light Up My Life‘ songwriter, 73, pleaded not guilty to rape, sexual abuse and other charges in 2009.
The new York City resident was found late Sunday afternoon on his living room couch which has a plastic dry-cleaning bag about his head, a towel all around his neck, plus a hose connected to a helium tank inside of the bag. The father of two left a three-page suicide be aware detailing his a variety of wellness issues but its contents haven’t been exposed.
He had been awaiting trial on charges of 82 sex crimes, soon after allegedly luring women to his apartment under the guise of auditioning them for roles in upcoming movies.
‘You Light Up My Life‘ was showcased on the soundtrack of a 1977 film through the identical title, starring Didi Conn and Michael Zaslow. The song earned Brooks an Oscar for Best Original Song, at the same time as a Grammy Award for Record of the Year. Debby Boone released the song like a single, which grew to become the title track of her debut album, with Brooks creating the entire undertaking. The song was later covered by greater than a dozen artists, including LeAnn Rimes, Whitney Houston, Perry Como, Kenny Rogers and Lee Greenwood.
Funeral services for Joseph Brooks are pending.
