Spring Equinox 2011
March 20, 2011 is the vernal equinox or first day of spring! At 7:21 p.m. EST astronomical spring begins from the Northern Hemisphere as defined by International Astronomical Union, although it will likely be the starting of fall for all those within the Southern Hemisphere. On the vernal equinox, day and night will likely be nearly identical in duration — 12 hours each — at the equatorial plane.
An equinox happens twice a yr, in March and September, when the middle in the Sun crosses right about the Earth’s equator, because the Earth is tilted neither away nor toward the Sun. Many cultures round the world celebrate the equinoxes as special events.
Whilst some herald the vernal equinox as the first day of spring, several round the world think about it to in fact be the mid-point of spring. In accordance with the world Meteorological Organization, the first day of climatological spring was on March 1, 2011.
