Attention : today is National Grammar Day!

The Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar has designated March 4 as National Grammar Day—a day apparently set aside for all of us who usually bastardize the English language with our dubious grasp on grammar to communicate in perfectly executed syntax. Just for today, of course—tomorrow we can go back to the brazenly moronic malaproprisms that we usually prefer in our daily speech.

Sure, National Grammar Day 2010 would be way more fun if George W. was still our commandeer in chief (yes, that was intentional). But just because he’s no longer the prez doesn’t mean he’s not still out there making some rad Bushisms. In honor of National Grammar Day, today seems like as good a day as any to celebrate some of of the classic Bushisms. Here are some of D+T’s favorites…

I’m going to put people in my place, so when the history of this administration is written at least there’s an authoritarian voice saying exactly what happened.” —March 17, 2009

One of the very difficult parts of the decision I made on the financial crisis was to use hardworking people’s money to help prevent there to be a crisis.” —Jan. 12, 2009

I’ve been in the Bible every day since I’ve been the president.” —Nov. 12, 2008

I’m coming as the president of a friend, and I’m coming as a sportsman.” —July 30, 2008

The people in Louisiana must know that all across our country there’s a lot of prayer—prayer for those whose lives have been turned upside down. And I’m one of them. —Sept. 3, 2008

I remember meeting a mother of a child who was abducted by the North Koreans right here in the Oval Office.” — June 26, 2008

And our personal all-time favorite:
I’m telling you there’s an enemy that would like to attack America, Americans, again. There just is. That’s the reality of the world. And I wish him all the very best.”—Jan. 12, 2009
