Tony Curtis Dies at 85
Tony Curtis died Wednesday of cardiac arrest in his house near Los Angeles. He was 85.
Born in the Bronx as Bernard Schwartz, surviving a harsh childhood, parlaying his good-looking face into charming film roles plus a much-publicized marriage to Hollywood royalty.
Curtis starred in this kind of classics like “Some Like It Hot (1959)” and “Spartacus (1960)” — and was nominated for an Oscar for his position in “The Defiant Ones (1958).”
Curtis was married six times, most famously to Janet Leigh from 1951 to 1962. Throughout that time, they co-starred in one of Curtis’ larger hits, the biopic “Houdini,” and had two daughters with each other: Kelly Lee Curtis and Jamie Lee Curtis, the actress and yogurt pitchwoman. (Curtis is survived by Kelly Lee and Jamie Lee, and by three kids from other marriages.)
