Unemployment Extension Defeated
The house of Representatives on Thursday voted down a measure that might have reauthorized prolonged unemployment insurance coverage for an additional 3 months, leaving no clear route ahead to stop the benefits from lapsing as scheduled on Nov. 30.
The invoice was introduced towards the ground under a “suspension of the rules,” which means it needed approval from two-thirds with the House. It failed 258 to 154, with largely Democratic help. Twenty-one Republicans voted in favor and eleven Democrats voted nay.
It is most likely there’ll be an additional work in Congress to reauthorize the benefits before the Christmas break, though lawmakers will probably be off subsequent week for Thanksgiving.
