USC bomb threat came from psychiatric ward
The call to authorities about a bomb threat at USC originated from the psychiatric ward at County-USC Hospital, law enforcement options said.
The caller had apparently documented various crimes earlier inside the day, the options said. He finally got the attention of authorities when he noted a “nuclear weapon” at the USC campus.
Dozens of Los Angeles police officers had been dispatched as a precaution, and university officials shut down the Leavey Library and warned students and staff to remain away. Some nearby streets were closed.
Officials familiar with the investigation stated police now think how the call was a hoax. They cleared the campus about 1:30 p.m.
Law enforcement options initially told The Times that the university received a call from an individual claiming he had planted a bomb inside of a campus building. Nevertheless, those sources mentioned they believed the caller was intoxicated and didn’t think he really planted a bomb.
Several students documented on Twitter that they had been ordered to remain inside their classrooms.
USC senior Meshay Brown, 22, mentioned her journalism professor had been instructed by campus security to help keep students within the classroom whilst police investigated the threat.
“We’re not certain if it’s a prank or if it’s for real, so we’re type of scared,” she stated. “We’re utilizing our phones and Twitter to discover out information since we don’t actually have significantly.”
