VIDEO : Blackbeard’s anchor lifted from sea after 293 years
The tensest minute came like a hydraulic crane lifted the enormous anchor from Blackbeard’s flagship distinct with the sea for the initial time since the Queen Anne’s Revenge sank almost 300 years back.
The waves just off Atlantic Beach were just a little too huge, and dozens of researchers, state history officials and journalists watched, transfixed as crew members from the Research Vessel Dan Moore – two on ropes and one particular with the controls from the hydraulic lift – tried to cease the almost 3,000-pound anchor from swinging out of handle.
