After weeks of saying no one would be fired till January, Jerry Jones was noticeably silent on guarantees yesterday. Today, Wade Phillips is out; Jason Garrett is in.

Jason Garrett has been named the new interim head coach. Garrett had previously been the Cowboys assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. Garrett, 44, turns into the 1st previous Dallas Cowboys player to grow to be head coach.

The Cowboys are off to their worst begin since 1989, with a 1-7 record. That record includes five straight losses. It is the 1st time, in Dallas Cowboys history, that a head coach has been fired mid-season.
