Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill
Final night time, the Joint Finance Committee passed the budget repair bill in Wisconsin, which includes the stripping away of collective bargaining rights for general public employees, by a party-line vote of 12-4. The bill could get votes as quickly as today in the Assembly and Senate.
Before passage, Republicans added amendments to the bill, which they mentioned addressed the worries that led towards the mass protests this week. But these amendments were cosmetic at greatest. They extended civil service protections to public workers who noticed their rights stripped away from the bill, and put in place a grievance technique underneath these civil service legal guidelines for complaints.
Democrats attempted an amendment to get all non-budget coverage items from the fix bill, as determined through the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau, who saw no fiscal influence in nine products, which includes the collective bargaining changes.
